There will be a Valentine’s dance in Slamannan Bowling Club on Saturday, February 15, starring cabaret star Des Dee. Tickets are £5. The club annual general meeting is scheduled for Sunday, February 16 at 2 p.m. A big turnout is hoped for.

Parish Church

Last Sunday we welcomed the Rev. Helen Cook as our new locum. The congregation had time to chat with Rev. Cook during a lovely fellowship tea and are looking forward to hearing her words of worship in the coming weeks. On door duty were Janette Baird and John Menzies. The Sunday School has now resumed after the holidays and meets at the church at 11.15 a.m. All children of primary school age are welcome. Angling Club

Permits to fish on the River Avon for season 2014 are now on sale. They are available from Linda’s Store (Slamannan); Rod and Creel (Carronshore); Go Fishing (Grahams Road, Falkirk) and also in Maryanne’s Alterations (Bo’ness), Linlithgow Post Office, Curries Printers in Broxburn and Livingston Angling (Houston Industrial Estate). SWRI meeting

The next meeting of the Greenhill and District S.W.R.I will be on February 10 and will be a Matter of Opinion. The panel will be made up of rural members. The competitions will be a Dundee Cake (recipe given) and a travelling jewellery holder.

Masonic news

Lodge St John Slamannan No 484: On Wednesday, January 29 R.W.M. James Kerr gave a warm welcome to a large attendance of members and visitors who witnessed two candidates being raised to the third degree in a dignified manner. They were congratulated by the R.W.M. and the assembled Brethren. The visitors were thanked. The R.W.M. Paul Smith, Lodge Ancient Stirling No 30, replied on their behalf. A first degree will be conferred by Lodge Caldercruix No 1314, on Wednesday, February 19. Visitors will be made welcome.

Drama project

An exciting new free drama project is beginning in Slamannan Community Centre on Sundays from from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. If you are aged 10 or over and have any connection to Slamannan or the surrounding areas and are interested in drama, performance and meeting new people then come and be part of this exciting new project.
