Discovery of human remains in search for missing East Wemyss men

Two separate discoveries of human remains have been made as police continue their search for two men who went missing after their boat capsized in the Firth of Forth.

The first find was made by a member of the public on a beach in St Andrews yesterday at around 11.30am.

The second discovery was made today at about 10am on East Sands, also in St Andrews.

The families of the missing men, David Stead (47) and Jason Buchan (35), have been informed.

A detailed forensic examination is now under way.

Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale, area commander for Levenmouth, said: “We are currently investigating two separate discoveries of what appears to be partial human remains.

“Family liaison officers have informed the relatives of two men reported missing from East Wemyss on Monday, August 10, and will continue to maintain contact with them throughout our investigation.”

“We are continuing with searches and specialist divers from the Police Scotland Marine Unit were deployed to the East Wemyss area over the weekend.’’
