Developer makes council to pay for appeal costs
An proposal for 15 three and four bedroom homes and a retail development on the site of the former Glen Village Bowling Club was originally recommended for approval by council planning officials.
However, it was not rubber-stamped by the planning committee and the applicant, Alpha Glen Developments Ltd, then appealed to the Scottish Government over the committee’s failure to decide on the application and Reporter Richard Hickman approved it.

Hide AdCouncillors and neighbours of the site objected to the proposal saying it would cause increased congestion in Glen Road; site over-development; and a risk of anti-social behaviour among other concerns.
The club facilities at the site have been removed and the land is currently unused and unkempt, but the old car park on the east side is still used “informally for local parking”, according to Mr Hickman’s report.
In the Reporter’s conclusions he said: The housing is compatible with neighbouring uses and a satisfactory level of residential amenity can be achieved. I cannot agree that the proposal amounts to over-development of the site.”
The company was also awarded the costs back for the appeal after claiming the council was unreasonable, forcing the process to take place.
Alpha Glen Developments declined to comment on the matter.
