Determined '˜detectorists' get digging for Darren

A metal detector group is on the hunt for donations to help a disabled teenager get a power pack for his manual wheelchair.

The Scottish Artefact Recovery Group (SARG) based in Bonnybridge carried out a sponsored dig – not to raise treasure from the ground – but to raise cash for Darren Anderson from Falkirk, who suffers from cerebral palsy.

Members raised a total of £371 which will go towards the £1200 Darren (18) needs for his power pack. The power pack will help Darren be more mobile and he is being supported by the Newlife charity.

Former teacher Hilary Maxtone, who is the group’s chairwoman, said: “I taught Darren in school and would love to help to get him mobile. He is a lovely young man.

“Club digs, searches for lost items and charity fundraising are just some of our activities. We also work alongside archaeologists on surveys and projects so everyone welcomed the opportunity to join in the efforts to raise money for Darren and we hope it’s not too long before he reaches his target.”
