Citizens Advice

The bureau is located above Clydesdale Bank at 24 Duke Street, Denny, and is open today (Thursday), Friday, Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A legal clinic is held every four weeks on Wednesdays by appointment only (4-5 p.m.). Outreach clinics are held at Bridge Crescent Community Flat on Tuesday from 9.30 a.m.-noon and Denny Parish Church hall on Wednesday from 9.30-11.30 a.m. Telephone service (Citizens Advice Direct) available Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on (01324) 823118.

Denny Old

The World Day of Prayer service is being held this year in the Baptist Church tomorrow (Friday) at 2 p.m. Last Sunday, Brooklyn Buchanan was welcomed by baptism into the fellowship of the church. Worship on Sunday is at 11 a.m. and will be led by Sandra Mathers. There will be crèche facilities and the Sunday Club meets at the same time. The Lunch Box is open on Monday from 11 a.m.-1.30 p.m. serving soup, sandwiches, tea/coffee and home baking. All welcome. The Girls’ Brigade meets on Monday at 6.30 p.m. and is open to all girls of school age. The Guild meets on Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. in the hall, when speaker Patricia Todd will be talking about ‘Seeds of Lavender.’ Items for the Easter edition of the church magazine should be submitted to Elinor Clunie as soon as possible. Advance notice of the Forth Bridge crossing in aid of Christian Aid which takes place on Saturday, April 25. If you would like a sponsor form, please see Janet Rhodes. Also for Christian Aid a paper quiz on ‘Scottish Songs’ has been produced, priced £1 and also available from Janet. Baptist Church

The joint Day Of Prayer service for Denny and Dunipace will be held in the Baptist Church tomorrow (Friday) at 2 p.m. to which everyone is invited. The services on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. will be led by the Rev. Norman Graham. The children and young people meet during the morning worship and a crèche is available for babies and toddlers during all services. Rainbow Hour for over-60s meets this Tuesday at 2 p.m. for the fortnightly informal meeting and afternoon tea. New members (male and female) would be made welcome.

Burns Club

Denny Cross Burns club held its February meeting in the Masonic Hall last Friday evening. President Stuart Assur welcomed a full turnout of members and friends. After routine business he then introduced Sweet Harmomy under the baton of Ian Silcock, a male voice choir singing barbershop versions of popular songs. A truly delightful evenings entertainment. The next meeting will be on Friday, March 27 when the vice-president will present the annual digital film show. The president thanks all who assisted at the Burns Supper for the residents of Albany Court. All arrangements are now finalised for the May drive and all monies can be paid to the treasurer. A committee meeting will take place on Monday, March 9 at 8 p.m.

Masonic News

A regular meeting of Lodge St Andrew (Denny & Loanhead) No. 176 will be held next Thursday when the business will include the first degree by RWM and lodge office bearers. Last Thursday’s meeting was a master mason degree and enjoyed by all but particularly the 19 visitors from Croydon. A superb harmony will followed. The senior members’ treat is on Saturday was a great success. Thanks to all who helped especially Winnie and Gordon Blair for their work in the kitchen. On March 14 there is a cabaret night featuring the top band Heartbeat. The following week the lodge will host the annual gathering of St Andrew lodges and in the evening Scottish folk duo Gaberlunzie will provide the entertainment. Book tickets for the cabarets at the bar on Friday, Saturday or Monday or via Helen on the usual social media links.

WASP Class
