Citizens Advice

The bureau is located above Clydesdale Bank at 24 Duke Street, Denny and is open today (Thursday), Friday, Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A legal clinic is held every four weeks on Wednesdays by appointment only (4-5 p.m.). Outreach clinics are held at Bridge Crescent Community Flat on Tuesday from 9.30 a.m.-noon and Denny Parish Church Hall on Wednesday from 9.30 a.m.-11.30 a.m. Telephone service (Citizens Advice Direct) available Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on (01324) 823118.

Denny Old

The Guild Presbyterial Council annual business meeting takes place tonight (Thursday) in Falkirk Trinity Church at 7.30 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend and needing a lift should contact Janet. The Time Out Group will meet tomorrow (Friday) at 8 p.m. in the Wheelhouse. Anyone wishing transport should contact Irene Rennie. The Service on Sunday is at 11 a.m., and will be led by Sandra Mathers. There will be crèche facilities and the Sunday Club meets at the same time. The Lunch Box is open on Monday from 11 a.m.-1.30 p.m. serving soup, sandwiches, tea/coffee and home baking. All welcome. The Girls’ Brigade meets on Monday at 6.30 p.m. and is open to all girls of school age. The Presbytery messy church event ‘Easter Cracked Open’ takes place in The Howgate shopping centre on Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and features stories, games crafts etc. Denny Old will be making Easter cards and if you would like to help or more information please speak to Irene or Stuart Rennie. All intimations for Sunday to be with Janet Rhodes by Thursday night at the latest.

Dunipace Church

Rev. Dr Jean Gallacher will lead the Sunday service at 11 a.m. A quiz night takes place tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30 p.m. Teams of up to six are invited to take part. Cost of team entry is £15 with tea and eats included. A planning meeting will be held in the Reading Room on Tuesday, March 24 at 7.30 p.m. This is to help shape the events to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the church. This will include a wedding dress display and summer festival. Anyone who would like to be involved is very welcome.

Baptist Church

The services on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. will be led by Rev. Norman Graham. Visitors are always welcome. The children and young people meet during the morning worship and a crèche is available during all services. Rainbow Hour for over-60s meet on Tuesday at 2 p.m. for the fortnightly informal meeting and afternoon tea. New members welcome, (male and female) and transport could be arranged if needed. Prayer groups meet at various venues during the week.

Masonic News

As part of the 225th anniversary celebrations, Lodge St. Andrew (Denny & Loanhead) No. 176 will host the annual gathering of St Andrew lodges on Saturday with the premises open from 11 a.m. Brethren from all over Scotland are expected to attend and RWM Kevin McLean would appreciate a good attendance by local Masons. The format is a first degree featuring various reigning masters and the meeting will tyle at 1 p.m. A sit down buffet meal will be served after. In the evening the celebrations will continue with a cabaret featuring Gaberlunzie which is open to wives, partners and non-members. Admission is £10 and includes a buffet. Last Thursday one new member was initiated in a good ceremony. At the close RWM Kevin McLean was presented with his installed Master’s certificate. On Saturday there was an excellent cabaret featuring HeartBeat, a ‘60s music and comedy trio. Next Thursday Lodge Polmont No. 793 will be visiting to confer the fellowcraft degree on one brother.

WASP Classes

Denny Wider Access to Schools Project offers Otago (mobility strength and balance exercises). Classes are aimed at anyone who is beginning to have trouble with walking/balance and may have lost their confidence. For more information contact Anne Campbell on (01324) 822895 or e-mail or

Coffee Morning

Denny Friends of Strathcarron Hospice has its annual coffee morning in Denny Parish Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. till noon. Tickets are only £2 including tea. There will be Easter novelties on offer along with flower posies tubs etc on sale. All welcome.

Line Dancing

Next class takes place tomorrow (Friday) in Broompark Centre, Denny, from 1-2 p.m. New members welcome.
