Denny Old

Worship on Sunday is at 11 a.m. and will be led by the Rev. Raymond Thomson. Creche facilities will be available, and the Sunday Club meets at the same time. The Lunch Box will be open on Monday from 11 a.m.-1.30 p.m., serving soup, sandwiches, tea/coffee and home baking. All welcome. The Walking Group begins on Tuesday, May 5 meeting at the church at 7 p.m. The walks are gentle and suitable for everyone to enjoy. If it is raining at 6.30 p.m. the walk will not take place. A garden fete will take place on Saturday, May 16. Elders are now visiting their districts with letters with fete information and will be collecting any donations over the next two weeks that you wish to make. All intimations for Sunday service to be with Janet Rhodes by tonight (Thursday) at the latest.

Westpark Church

On Sunday, the Reverend Ray Thomson will lead worship at 10.30 a.m. Kidzone take part at the start of the service then move to the halls to enjoy their own activities. Creche facilities are also available. The Wednesday Welcome is open from 10 a.m. for fellowship over tea or coffee followed by a short service from 11.15 -11.45 a.m. Please note that the Open Door is open from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today (Thursday) All welcome.

Baptist Church

The services on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. will be led by the Rev. Norman Graham. Visitors are always welcome. The children and young people meet during the morning worship and a crèche is available during all services. Rainbow Hour for over-60s meet this Tuesday at 2 p.m. for the fortnightly informal meeting and afternoon tea. Prayer groups meet in various venues during the week.

Summer Fete

Dunipace Primary School will host its annual summer fete on Thursday, May 28 from 6-8 p.m. There will be lots of stalls, bouncy castles, raffles and lots more. The school is looking for donations for prizes, and if anyone in the local area has anything that they would like to donate, they should make contact with parent’s association via the school, and they can arrange for items to be collected.

Burns Club

Denny Cross Burns Club held its AGM in the Masonic Hall last Friday. President Stuart Assur welcomed a good turnout of members and friends. After adoption of the secretary, treasurer and auditors reports the election of office-bearers for 2015/16 took place. President Stuart Assur, vice-president Winnie Blair, treasurer Bill Kirkpatrick, secretary Gordon Blair, auditor Jean Burgess. Committe S McMenemy, L Assur, P Shanks, M Mullan, M McMenemy. Following the business arrangements for the year the gentlemen of the club served a delicious buffet.The bus for the drive leaves Denny Cross at 9 a.m. sharp on Saturday, May 30 with an evening stop at the Argyll Hotel, Inverary. The club is pleased to announce that St Patrick’s Primary is this year’s winner of the Schools Challenge Shield and thanks go to all the schools who took part in what was a very hard task for our judging panel. The club resumes in September with guest speakers and the Annual Celebration. A committee meeting will take place on Monday, May 17 at 8 p.m.

Masonic News

Lodge St. Andrew, Denny & Loanhead, No. 176 will celebrate its 225th anniversary on August 22 with a rededication ceremony and dinner. Members interested in attending need to pay a £10 fee to reserve a place at the dinner. Priority will be given to 176 members until the end of May. The closing meeting of the current session was a mark degree last Thursday carried out by lodge office bearers, with PM Mackay as Mark Master. It was agreed that a golf competition would be held on August 2, the actual anniversary of the granting of the charter. Arrangement are being made for another visit to Coulsdon Lodge in Croydon in November. Anyone interested in the 225 dinner, the golf or the Croydon visit should attend an informal gathering on Friday, May 15 at 7.45 p.m.

WASP Classes

Wider Access to Schools are now offering Otago (mobility strength and balance exercises) classes. They are aimed at anyone who is beginning to have trouble with walking/balance and may have lost their confidence. For more information contact Anne Campbell on (01324) 822895 or email or

Charity Concert

A concert by Strathcarron Singers is being held in DWestpark Church, Duke Street, on Monday commencing at 7.30 p.m. There will be refreshments served in the hall at the close of the concert. Tickets cost £5 but payment can be made at the door. All proceeds will go to Strathcarron Hospice.

Citizens Advice

The bureau is located above Clydesdale Bank at 24 Duke Street, Denny and is open today (Thursday), Friday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A legal clinic is held every four weeks on Wednesdays by appointment only (4-5 p.m.). Outreach clinics are held at the Archibald Russell Centre (today) 10 a.m. -noon and Bridge Crescent Community Flat on Tuesday from 9.30 a.m.-noon.
