Denny caravan business enjoys award-winning year

Carr’s Hill in Denny, which offers five hardstanding pitches, was voted runner-up in at the prestigious industry event hosted by culture secretary Sajid Javid MP at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster.

It capped off a successful 2014 for business owners Grant and Gillian Turnbull. Last month, they were highly commended at The Falkirk Herald Business Awards after being shortlisted in the tourism category.

The Caravan Club represents the interests of more than one million caravanners across the country and recommends suitable sites for holidays.

Its awards are voted for by members and based on personal recommendations.

“It’s a fairly high accolade for us to win, considering this is only our fourth year in business,” said Grant (41).

“We received a call five weeks before the awards from the Caravan Club that we had finished second out of more than 2500 certified locations across the country. Given the standard of the competition we were up against, we are obviously delighted.”

The husband-and-wife team set up their business 
after reading an article in the club’s magazine on the demand for more pitches. The land, which offers excellent motorway links, was bought from Gillian’s parents, who have lived in the area for more than 30 years.

Grant credits the recent opening of The Kelpies and the on-going interest in The Falkirk Wheel as being attractive to potential customers.

“Promoting the locallandmarks is something I do a lot of,” he added.

“I would say that 90 per cent of our visitors go to visit the Kelpies and the Wheel.”
