Denny and Dunipace gala revival is a big success

Hundreds of locals turned out on Saturday to show their support for Denny and Dunipace Children’s Gala.

After a gap of 14 years, the event has been revived and, on the evidence of the afternoon, it can look forward to a long and successful future.

Organised by Denny and Dunipace Heritage Society and the local community council, the gala began with a parade which made its way from Dunipace Juniors’ ground, through Denny Cross and along Stirling Street to Herbertshire Castle Park, approriately known locally as Gala Park.

Dozens of people joined in the official procession and the streets were lined with cheering spectators.

Once at the park, the event was formally opened with a performance by Denny Dance Academy followed by the crowning of queen Marie Smith.

There was plenty to keep the large crowds occupied throughout a bright afternoon – with the sun making an occasional appearance – with live music, dance performances and sporting demonstrations.

Further entertainment was be provided by a funfair, pony rides, bouncy castle, a variety of stalls and a dog show.
