Dancing down Sixth Avenue in New York City

The recent annual Tartan Parade had a strong theme of the hit books and TV series ‘Outlander’ and it was through her mum, Elaine Boardman, that Kayleigh found herself taking a starring role.

“My mum is a huge Outlander follower and she happened to mention to the fan group she’s in that her daughter was a Highland dancer and they insisted I come to New York to take part in the parade,” said Kayleigh (25).

Veterinary nurse Kayleigh has been studying Highland dancing for 16 years as a dancer, teacher and examination judge.

As well as leading 300 fans in the parade, Kayleigh danced for Scots actor Sam Heughan, who is one of the show’s lead characters and was the grand master of this year’s parade, and performed at Grand Central Station, at a ceilidh and at a pre-screening show at the launch of the new series of Outlander, which has filmed at locations throughout Scotland, including locally.

“It was full-on from Thursday to Sunday but adrenalin kept me going and dancing in a parade down Sixth Avenue with a pipe band was a dancer’s dream and I was very proud to have been asked to take part,” Kayleigh said.
