People of all ages are being encouraged to get on their bikes this week.

Cycling UK’s annual Bike Week, which runs from June 6 to 14, may look different this year thanks to Covid-19.

But the charity hopes that the 5000 people who took part last year will join in with its online events.

You can even become a cycling hero by taking on the #7daysofcycling challenge.

A Cycling UK spokesman said: “Cycling is a great way to keep fit, stay active, boost your immunity and is also good for mental well-being.

“In these uncertain times, helping people come together to ride may not be possible, so we’re holding Bike Week events online instead.

“We also hope people will give our #7DaysofCycling challenge a try.

“There are no rules on what counts as one of your entries – all you need to do is go cycling or take part in a cycling-related activity and share a photo, video or story about your experience on Instagram or Twitter, using #7DaysofCycling.”

At the end of the challenge, Cycling UK will randomly select participants to receive a number of prizes that are also up for grabs.

Dr Helen Flaherty, head of health promotion at Heart Research UK, is more than happy to support Bike Week.
