Cub Scouts celebrate 100 years

Over 100 Cub Scouts from across Falkirk District and Clackmannanshire met in the Helix Park to renew their Promise.

The event last Thursday was part of the movement’s 100th birthday celebration and was led by Falkirk District Commissioner Ann Gilchrist and Forth Regional Commissioner, Lenny Jamieson.

During the year a number of activities promoting cubs and scouting have been held across the country.

Local cub scouts packed the Barrwood campsite near Denny in June for a weekend of fun which ended with the cutting of the official birthday cake to mark the centenary.

Records show cubs scouts have been part of the Falkirk and district landscape since 1910 with 14th Falkirk, 16th Grangemouth and 12th Polmont all attending an inspection of Stirlingshire Scouts at King’s Park on September 17 that year.

By 1922 there were seven Wolf Cub Packs. 15th Grangemouth, 16th Laurieston, 17th Denny, 18th Camelon, 29th Falkirk (United Free) and 35th Stenhousemuir boasting 180 members between them.
