Woman drove while seven times the limit

Ewelina Rebisz (50) was arrested by Forth Valley road policing officers around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, July 12 after another driver spotted her driving erratically on Causewayhead Road, Stirling and called the police.

The witness followed her Citreon Xsara motor car as she struck kerbs and crossed over onto the opposite carriageway and was able to give real time updates until a road policing officer intervened a few minutes later and signalled her to stop.

When breathalysed her roadside reading was 186ug while a later specimen at the police station recorded 172ug/100mls, which is over seven times the legal limit (22 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath).

Rebisz pleaded guilty to Section 5 of the Road Traffic Act and was given an interim disqualification when she appeared at Stirling Sheriff Court.

She will be sentenced on August 10.

Inspector Roddy MacMillan of Trunk Road Patrol Group for the East of Scotland said: “Ewelina Rebisz drove while more than seven times over the drink driving limit putting herself and other road users in danger of serious injury, or even death.

“Thankfully a member of the public had the quick-thinking and community spirit to call the police thereby helping to prevent a more tragic outcome.

“While this driver was substantially over the drink drive limit, we want to reiterate our message that no amount of alcohol is safe when you are getting behind the wheel of a car.

“We will seek prosecution for everyone who chooses to drive while over the limit.”

Forth Valley Superintendent Kenny MacLeod said: “The number of drunk drivers caught by police in Forth Valley is up 20 per cent over the last year – from 79 to 100.

“This is testament to our commitment to making road safety a priority across the area, particularly on the priority roads of A84/85 and A803.”
