Mohsin Ahmed (21) carried out measurements at the property, in Tummel Place, before swiping the homeowner’s Bank of Scotland debit card on February 8.

Ahmed, of 103 Terregles Crescent, Pollokshields, appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday.

Procurator fiscal depute Ann Orr said: “The accused attended at the address as a window sales representative.

“He was allowed into the property and spoke to the householder who escorted him around while he was taking measurements.

“Just before leaving, he said he had left a tape measure upstairs. She escorted him up. He then left.

“A short time later the householder realised something was out of place. The complainer worked out what it was and realised her Bank of Scotland debit card was missing.”

CCTV footage showed Ahmed picking up the bank card and putting it in his pocket before leaving.

The incident was reported to police who were able to trace Ahmed through his job.

He was cautioned and charged after making no comment while being interviewed.

Defence solicitor Lynn Swann said her client had missed a court appearance on October 15 as he’d tested positive for coronavirus.

She added: “He’s a first offender. He lost his employment and has managed to get himself back into employment working as a part-time delivery driver.”

Addressing Ahmed, Sheriff Derek Hamilton said: “You were clearly in a position of trust going into this lady’s house and you quite clearly breached that.

“It was a nasty offence. You are, however, a first offender.”

He was made subject to a three-month, 6pm-6am daily restriction of liberty order.
