The incident happened at Bainsford Primary School, in Waverly Street, last Tuesday between 6.30pm and 8.10pm.

A number of youths were spotted within the grounds and some of them climbed onto the school roof and gained access to the central quad where they caused significant damage.

The youngsters also switched on a tap which was left running all night, flooding the outdoor nursery area of the school.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “This type of mindless vandalism has affected the nursery children, pupils, parents and teachers. The vandals have shown no regard for the time and effort put in by the local community.

“I would describe the youths as males early teens, white and slim build. One specific youth was wearing a baby blue tracksuit zipping top with no hood with a thick white strip diagonally across the front, light or blonde coloured hair.

“Another was wearing a dark jumper, black thick rimmed glasses with a modern short back and sides style hair cut swept to the side. It is believed parents dropped some of these youths off in the area of the school prior to the vandalism.

“I encourage any person with knowledge of who committed the vandalism to contact police.”
