Detective Inspector Jim Thomson of Falkirk CID said: “The homeowner is absolutely devastated at the theft of his belongings including a large number of extremely valuable coins from various countries across the world.

“It is likely those responsible will look to sell these coins on and I would ask specialist dealers and second hand retailers to be vigilant for anyone offering such items in the near future. If you have any suspicions then please contact police immediately.

“I would also urge anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity in Duke Street on Monday evening, or who has information relevant to this inquiry, to get in touch.”

Anyone who can help should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
