Took fake '˜BB' gun into hotel reception and asked to go to loo

A man fell foul of the law after walking into a hotel to try and use the toilet with an imitation handgun tucked into the waistband of his trousers.

Nadim Qadir (46) was captured on CCTV having a ten minute conversation with a person in the hotel and then leaving.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, Qadir, 23 Breton Court, Falkirk, had previously pled guilty to behaving in a threatening manner at the Hotel Cladhan, Kemper Avenue, Falkirk on June 22 last year.

Defence solicitor Dick Sandeman said: “It is a BB gun which shoots plastic pellets and he had it to shoot some tin cans. He had gone to the hotel to use their facilities and this was declined by the management.

“The person mentioned in the charge seems reasonably relaxed in the CCTV footage.”

Sheriff John Mundy said: “It has been played down, but what you had in your possession was an imitation firearm, which looks real to someone who wouldn’t know any better. The person you spoke to in the hotel was significantly concerned to phone the police.”

Qadir was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work in the community within six months and told to forfeit his BB gun.
