The court heard 92.8 grams of herbal cannabis worth £1000 was recovered by police on the night in question.

Murray Aitken, defence solicitor, said the value of the drugs was derived from the fact the were split into 26 3.5 gram bags priced at £40 each, so they could have made Waters around £1000 if he sold them all.

He added: “Foolish is an understatement. He had been passing on the cannabis to people who were suffering from the same difficulty as him.”

Sheriff Derek Hamilton deferred sentence on Waters until February 4.

He said: “I haven’t decided what to do with you. There is a conviction for dealing drugs on your record which is not a great start for your young adulthood. We will find out if you are back working and you may find it will hit your pocket hard.

“If you can buy something that would have made you £1000 then you must have a lot of money to throw around.”
