Teen terror Teven took car and drove like a maniac in Maddiston

When the driver left his car with the keys in the ignition it was the green light for one wild teenager to state “let’s take this a drive” and go on to cause a multiple fender bender.

Gordon Teven (18), 22 Forgie Crescent, Maddiston, appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, having pled guilty to stealing the car and dangerous driving in California Road, Maddiston on November 9 last year.

Procurator fiscal depute Eilidh Smith said: “The witness was driving the vehicle and after a short period he stopped and got out to attend at a fast food van. The engine was switched off but the the keys were left in the ignition.

“The accused then climbed into the driver’s seat and said ‘let’s take this a drive’. Other witnesses in the car told him not to, however, he started up the vehicle and drove off.

“He was driving like a maniac and ended up back in the area he had taken the vehicle from. He lost control of the vehicle and collided with a parked car, which caused it to shunt forward and collide with another vehicle, causing damage to both.

“The accused was then seen to leave the vehicle and leave the area.”

Murray Aitken, defence solicitor, said: “I’m not saying this is an excuse, but he has been in the company of other individuals in respect of this offence. Social workers consider him vulnerable to other individuals in the criminal justice system.”

Sheriff Derek Hamilton banned Teven from driving for 14 months and placed him on a supervised community payback order for 12 months.
