Stole from OAPs he was hired to help

A crooked carer who stole from two elderly people he was hired to help has narrowly avoided jail.

Mathew Booth took £20 from each of his OAP victims living in sheltered accommodation in Morar Court, Grangemouth.

At Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday the 27-year-old of 19 Strowan Square, Grangemouth, was placed on a community order and told to complete 160 hours unpaid work in four months.

Booth, a first offender, was warned the sentence was a direct alternative to custody.

Sheriff Craig Caldwell said: “Two elderly and vulnerable people who allowed you access to their homes were entitled to believe you were a person they could trust. This was a gross and cynical breach of that trust. The amounts taken might have been trivial, but the emotional impact was not.”
