Shieldhill man verbally abused officers before kicking out at them

A Shieldhill man who acted aggressively and repeatedly uttered threatening remarks before assaulting police officers has been placed under curfew.

Jordan Reape (25), 58 Anderson Crescent, had previously admitted that on September 1, 2019 at Forth Valley Royal Hospital he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, shouted, swore, acted aggressively and repeatedly uttered threatening remarks. He also admitted assaulting two police officers, kicking them on the body.

Falkirk Sheriff Court heard last Thursday that police received a call from an ambulance crew at around 6.40pm that day stating they had received a call regarding Reape.

The procurator fiscal depute said: “Police witnesses attended and at around 7.35pm they noticed him walking away from the ambulance towards the exit to the hospital.

“Police spoke with the paramedics who stated the accused was signing a self discharge form. He was informed he would be required to see medical staff by the police due to concerns for his wellbeing.

“The accused became abusive towards police and told them that he did not require any medical attention and he would be going home.”

He then became verbally abusive towards the officers and was placed in the back of the police van.

While in the vehicle He continued to be verbally abusive.

She continued: “The accused refused to move his leg and kicked out with both feet.”

The court heard he kicked both officers - one on the shin and the other on the thigh.

Reape’s defence solicitor said: “He had tried to do himself harm, there was no one else involved.He had been drinking heavily. He didn’t want anyone else involved and wanted to go home. At that point in his life he had a serious alcohol problem. He wasn’t thinking about his own wellbeing or the wellbeing of anyone else around him.”

He added that his behaviour was “simply because of the alcohol consumption” and that he accepts “the behaviour is completely out of order”.

Sheriff Mundy ordered Reape to stay home between 7pm and 6am each night for six months.
