The incident occurred shortly before the start of morning classes on what was the last day for senior pupils before the exams period begins this week.

No damage was caused and no-one was injured.

A spokesman for police in Bo’ness said: “Whilst some may consider this type of behaviour a prank, we must remember that thick smoke and burning flares can cause panic or injury.

“Considerable disruption was caused within the school environment and the fire service had to attend.

“I wish to remind school leavers that damage or reckless behaviour that endangers others will not be tolerated in any way.”

The teenager is expected to appear at Falkirk Sheriff Court this afternoon.
