During the early afternoon row he threw a TV remote control across the bedroom, which smashed a mirror, and in the living room he grabbed Lorraine Brand and pushed her on to a couch.

Falkirk Sheriff Court heard last Thursday the woman suffered cuts and bruising as a result of the attack on March 5 in the home they shared at 15 Marmion Road, Grangemouth.

Ferguson’s lawyer claimed: “It was a domestic argument, a one-off incident, but he regrets his actions that day. There is a possibility of a reconciliation.”

Sheriff Derek Livingston deferred sentence on Ferguson (36), from 16 Hodge Street, Falkirk, for three months to give him the chance to prove he can behave himself.
