Police warn Falkirk residents to beware of ‘council tax refund’ scam
Police are urging anyone who receives an email promising a hefty council tax rebate to delete it - because it’s just the latest criminal scam.
There’s no mention of which council is theoretically involved, which is an immediate giveaway that the email is a fraud.
The example police received promised a rebate of more than £450, but its only purpose is to persuade the recipient to click a link in the text designed to help crooks gain bank details.
