Police share safety advice in response to Forth Valley dog theft fears

Officers are “aware of social media chat” of properties being marked with cable ties and chalk relating to dog theft.
While there have been no reports of such crimes in Forth Valley, police are pointing owners to the Dogs Trust website which offers advice on the matter.

Hide AdA statement on the site reads: “Incidences of dog theft have been increasing over the past few years, with the home and garden being the top locations for pet theft.
“We are urging dog owners to be vigilant and not leave their dogs unattended in public areas, as well as considering a number of small changes they can make to help protect their pet.
“Our dogs play such a huge part in our lives and it is important for us to offer them the same care and protection given to all family members.
“Whether two legs or four, we all want to be kept safe!
“By following our three simple steps, you can reduce the risk of theft and offer the best possible chance of being reunited with your dog should they go missing.”

SPOTTABLE - Keep dogs in sight and trained to return
SEARCHABLE - Know what steps to take if they go missing
