Members of the public have taken to social media to raise their concerns over the loud bangs, which have in some instances been causing upset to pets.

There has been some speculation online over the source of the sounds which are reported to come from near the river, with some concerned for the welfare of local wildlife.

Others have suggested that the bangs are coming from the farmer’s fields nearby and are likely to be a device for scaring birds away from crops.

On Friday, police locally confirmed officers have been working to identify the source of the sounds.

Sergeant Alyn Blyth from Falkirk Police Station said following concerns from the public work had been done to identify local landowners and to speak with people they know run planned shoots for pest control reasons.

He said: “One of those game keepers and police heard the report and the consensus was that it was a crow-scare.

“Our attempts to find the device/person having heard the report failed however.

“Given the number of dog walkers, cyclists etc and the volume of calls to police we’re confident the thing wasn’t being directed at people and was related to pest control.”
