Police appeal for witnesses after pensioner targeted

Youths who tried to rob an elderly woman in broad daylight are being hunted by police.

Officers in Falkirk are conducting door-to-door inquiries in their continued appeal for witnesses after the pair targeted the pensioner.

The incident happened between 1.30pm and 2.30pm last Thursday, June 9 in Carron Road, Bainsford.

The 83-year-old woman was walking along the road, near to the bus stop outside Matalan, when the two teenagers approached her.

They assaulted the woman, and attempted to grab her handbag.

However, they were disturbed by two passers-by before running off.

The first suspect is described as being 13 or 14 years old, white, slim built, around 5ft 3in, with dark brown short hair.

He was possibly wearing a denim jacket.

The second suspect was also white, aged 15 or 16 years old, slim built, around 5ft with light coloured short hair.

Detective Sergeant Johnny Dreczkowski of Falkirk CID said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Carron Road near to the retailer Matalan on Thursday between 1.30 pm and 2.30 pm.

“We are especially keen to speak to the two men who helped this woman, and I’d ask them to contact us.

“We’d also like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any relevant information.”
