Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, George Cochrane (30) pleaded guilty to the assault he committed in Shiel Gardens, Langlees on April 17 last year. He also admitted breaching his bail conditions and behaving in a threatening manner at an address in Shiel Gardens on May 24, 2020.

Rachel Wallace, procurator fiscal depute, said: “The accused was staying over with the complainer and an argument occurred . He ran at the complainer which caused her to fall to the ground, resulting in no injuries.”

Cochrane was back again a few weeks later.

“It was 4pm and the accused attended at the address to collect clothing,” said the procurator fiscal depute. “He asked the complainer if he could come inside to speak to her. At 8.30pm they began arguing and the accused became aggressive towards her.

“She attempted to leave the address, however, he stood in front of the door, stopping her. He then ran into the bathroom. She asked him to leave and he swore at her. Police attended and spoke with the accused, who was still in the bathroom.

“He opened the door and said ’I know I shouldn’t be here, I have conditions’. He was arrested and taken to the police vehicle. The accused went onto his knees and was refusing to walk. He had to be helped to his feet.”

Defence solicitor, Simon Hutchison, said alcohol was a factor.

He said: ““It’s a difficult relationship and Mr Cochrane didn’t help matters. It’s clear this relationship was a bad one. He had too much to drink that day – alcohol is a problem for him.”

Mr Hutchison added the complainer in the case had supposedly attacked Cochrane with a hoover during the incident.

Sheriff Christopher Shead told Cochrane, 46 Gairdoch Street, Bainsford, his “liberty was hanging by a thread” and ordered him to complete 180 hours unpaid work within 12 months.

He also made him subject to a non-harassment order not to contact the complainer for 12 months.
