Net is tightening on illegal fishing in Falkirk

A warning has gone out to chancers who are angling to land some fish during the current COVID-19 lockdown.

Last week bailiffs from Forth District Salmon Fishery Board were forced to remove three people fishing on the River Carron in Falkirk.

Posting on their Facebook page the board stated: “All three were in breach of current government restrictions and were fishing without written permission. The bailiffs have passed on their information to the police who are working closely with the board and clubs across the Forth to try and protect wild fish populations from individuals trying to exploit the current situation.

“Rivers are being patrolled and overall, we are encouraged by the restraint shown by the majority of the angling community during these difficult times.

However, if you see anyone fishing whilst out on your daily walk, please report it Hopefully government restrictions will ease and we can all get back out to enjoy the sport we all love.”
