Motorway closed off after two car smash

Emergency services had to close off a section of the M9 last night following a two car collision which left a 51-year-old man seriously injured.

The incident, which involved a Fiat 500 and another vehicle which ended up coming to rest in some bushes, took place at around 10pm at Junction 6 near Skinflats and Grangemouth Old Town.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were quickly on the scene and the road was closed to traffic as debris was cleared away and the area was made safe.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Forth Valley were called to the M9 motorway approximately half-a-mile south of the Kelpies at around 10pm on Tuesday, December 12, following a two vehicle collision.

“Emergency services were in attendance and a 51-year-old man was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. The eastbound carriageway was closed for approximately two and a half hours and local diversions were in place.

“Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Road Policing Unit via 101, quoting incident number 3762 of December 12.”
