'Luke Mitchell is innocent' graffiti sprayed all over Grangemouth park building

Mindless vandals have covered a building in Grangemouth’s historic Zetland Park with graffiti referring to convicted killer Luke Mitchell.

The slogans, which cover the walls of the small building, stating “Luke Mitchell is innocent” and “Free Luke now” among other things.

Luke Mitchell, who was then 15-years-old, was accused of murdering 14-year-old Jodi Jones in Dalkeith on June 30, 2003. Following a trial he was convicted in January 2005 and sentenced to detention without limit of time with a minimum of 20 years.

A Channel 5 documentary, entitled Murder in a Small Town, was broadcast recently suggesting Mitchell was innocent of the crime.

One angry Grangemouth resident said: “It doesn’t matter if you think Luke Mitchell is guilty or not – it still doesn’t give you the right to vandalise buildings in this way just to get your point across.”
