When banned driver Akib Aslam was pulled over, he lied and pretended to be someone else.

Aslam (22), of 4 Bronte Place, Larbert, was stopped on September 25 on Carronlea Drive, Carron but told police officers he was Abbas Ahmed from Stirling.

When enquiries were made, he admitted his real identity and ended up spending a weekend in custody.

Aslam appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday after admitting driving without a licence, with no insurance and of perverting the course of justice by concealing his real identity.

The part-time waiter was sentenced to a community pay back order with 110 hours of unpaid work in the community within three months and had 10 points put on his licence.

Sheriff Linda Smith warned: “If you don’t follow this order to the letter, you will find yourself back here and you could be looking at a custodial sentence. “
