Michael Murray (51) was said to have an “ability to wind himself up” and certainly was tightly wound when officers called at this door in an effort to locate his lad.

Murray appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Thursday having admitted behaving in a threatening manner towards police officers at his 9 Cobblebrae Crescent, Langlees home on September 2 last year.

“The accused was immediately abusive towards officers, telling them to get out and swearing at them. He continued to be abusive and aggressive and, as a result, further officers were asked to attend.

“He threatened to assault them and was then arrested.”

Stephen Biggam, defence solicitor, said: “You could say it’s a situation that could have been handled much better by Mr Murray. The police had attended on a number of occasions looking for his son.

“Once he gets started he has an ability to wind himself up further and further and it’s difficult for him to come out of it.”

Sheriff Derek Livingston said Murray’s behaviour towards police officers just trying to do their job was “unacceptable”, but noted he did have a limited record of offending.

He fined Murray £335 to be paid back at a rate of £50 per month.
