Have-a-go hero knocked out during brutal gang assault

A man was badly injured and another knocked unconscious in a vicious attack by a gang of thugs after a late night row outside a Broxburn nightclub.

Now police are appealing for witnesses to the brutal attacks, which happened around 1.50am in Greendykes Road on Sunday, October 30.

They particularly want to speak to a girl who had been with the culprits, but who bravely tried to intervene.

Violence erupted after a 35-year-old woman and 32-year-old man left The Club venue and became involved in an argument with a mob of male and female youths.

About five of the males attacked the man, leaving him with a serious facial injury.

A 49-year-old man who witnessed the assault and tried to help the victim was also attacked and knocked unconcious before staff and patrons appeared.

The suspects fled the scene, and both injured men were taken to St John’s Hospital for treatment.

Detective Sergeant Graham Garvie from Livingston CID said: “Both victims sustained painful injuries during this incident and the 32-year-old’s partner was also left extremely shaken and deeply upset as a result.

“A number of witnesses from The Club provided assistance at the time but we are keen to hear from other members of the public who were around the Greendykes Road area in the early hours of Sunday morning and saw the attack, or who can help us identify the suspects – they should contact police immediately.

“A female member of the group, who was not involved in the assaults, put herself in the way of her friends to prevent further injury to either victim and we commend her bravery for this.

“I would now also ask her to get in touch and assist with our enquiries.”
