Hallglen man threw kebab sauce at woman before punching hole in wall

Andrew Wilson, 27 Nevis Place, Hallglen, branded the woman, who was his partner, a “waste of space” and said she should kill herself following a night out on August 8, 2020.

Matters turned sour when the pair returned to the woman’s home in Larbert in the early hours of the morning. The 20-year-old lost his temper and launched a series of insults – as well as a tub of sauce – at his victim.

Wilson appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday having admitted behaving threateningly by shouting repeatedly and swearing at his partner, clenching his fists, acting in an aggressive manner and throwing sauce at her which struck her on the face.

He also pleaded guilty to wilfully or recklessly destroying or damaging property belonging to another and punching a wall.

Procurator fiscal depute Heather Galbraith said: “The witness and the accused had been in a relationship for approximately two years. At the time of the incident it had been on and off.

The court was told, on the night the witness met the accused at The Scotia Bar in Falkirk.

“After a short time they got a taxi back to her address. They ordered food and the witness made comments to the accused about friends he had on Facebook.

“He started shouting at her, stating she was a ‘waster’ and a ‘waste of space’. He stated she should kill herself.

“He then started texting a friend and called the witness a ‘psycho’ and a ‘nutter’.

“The witness went to collect the food when it was delivered, and the accused began shouting, ‘You’re doing my nut in’.”

At that point Wilson threw the sauce at the woman and was told to leave.

The fiscal depute continued: “He returned a few minutes later and punched a hole in the wall. Police were called.”

The fiscal depute confirmed the woman was not supportive of a non-harassment order.

Defence solicitor, Simon Hutchison, told the court his client had been in a “toxic relationship.”.

Mr Hutchison added: “There’s a child from the relationship who he sees regularly.

“They continue to cooperate with each other in the upbringing of their baby daughter.

“He usually attends with his family. They have been concerned for some time about his relationship and he has come to the realisation it was toxic.

“He claims she was slapping him and he threw the sauce to stop her. He appears to have good family support.”

The solicitor told Sheriff Derek Livingston that Wilson was continuing to pay a fine over a separate matter and is employed at an Asda distribution centre.

Placing Wilson under supervision for two years, Sheriff Livingston said: “I think he would benefit from supervision, and the general public would benefit.”

Sheriff Livingston also ordered him to pay £450 in compensation to the victim, plus a £20 victim surcharge, and fined him £280.
