Grangemouth: Police insist no risk to the public after reports of 'stay in homes' alarm

Police Scotland has said that there is no reason for the public to be alarmed after they attended an incident just before midnight in Grangemouth.

Residents reported hearing an alarm that informed them to ‘stay in their homes’ at around 11.15pm on Friday.

Radio station Central FM suggested that the alarm could have been from the building of the chemical company, INEOS.

After a police incident was launched and emergency services arrived at the site, Police Scotland released a statement saying: “We received reports of an alarm activation in the #Grangemouth area around 11.15pm this evening.

“After attendance we have established there are no issues at any of the sites in Grangemouth and local residents need not be alarmed.”

Police confirmed that the alarm went off at a “petrochemical plant” and that it was due to a fault.

Central FM also reported that an investigation has been launched into the systems fault that caused the alarm to go off.
