Nathan Scott (24) had been drinking with his partner and took umbrage at her former relationship with his brother to such an extent he struck her on the head.

Scott appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday having pled guilty to assaulting and injuring his partner at his 51B Strowan Road, Grangemouth home on May 12.

Procurator fiscal depute Sean Maher said: “It was 3.20am and the accused and complainer were within the address drinking alcohol together. He entered the bedroom and started an argument in relation to her previous relationship.

“She tried to ignore him but he became angry and shouted at her. He struck her on the head and matters were brought to the attention of police. She had bruising and swelling to her left eye.”

The court heard Scott and his partner had been preparing for company – another three people – to arrive and join them, but their friends did not turn up so the couple started to consume all the alcohol they had purchased for the get together themselves.

It was stated Scott’s partner’s previous relationship with his brother was what sparked the violence and that it was Scott himself who actually contacted police after the incident.

He told officers “Yeah, I slapped her but she’s a psycho”.

Scott was said to have had previous difficulties with alcohol abuse and had been struggling with the whole COVID-19 lockdown situation at the time of the offence.

The court heard the couple were looking to get back together, and that Scott’s partner actually lived with his mother.

Sheriff Derek Hamilton said: “You’re quickly working your way towards a custodial sentence. You make sentencing difficult because you have breached so many community payback orders in the past.

“You may well be running out of options here – you may well receive a custodial sentence in this matter.”

Sentence was deferred on Scott until January 7 so he could undergo a Caledonian domestic abuse programme assessment.
