Footballer caught driving on drugs in Camelon

A motorist who had taken drugs some time before going out to play football and then driving his car was found to be four times over the legal drug driving limit.

Robbie McCabe (25) had just been playing football and was driving his car with drugs still in his system from when he took them some time earlier. He came to the attention of police because he entered a roundabout at excessive speed.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Thursday, McCabe admitted driving under the influence of drugs on Glasgow Road, Camelon on December 28 last year. He gave a reading of 200 microgrammes of Benzoylecgonine – the main metabolite of cocaine – per litre of blood when the legal limit is 50 microgrammes.

Sheriff Derek Hamilton banned McCabe, 54 Bellside Court, Linlithgow, from driving for 13 months and fined him £500 to be paid back at a rate £25 per week.
