The structure was being used by the local foodbank during the pandemic and it is thought that supplies will have been stored inside at the time of the incident.

The club also hoped to use it as additional changing rooms to allow games to restart at the ground.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 4.40am today and two appliances from Larbert attended. The crews left at 5.46am.”

A post on the club’s Facebook page shows the extent of the damage with little left of the container.

It stated: “Fire at the club last night, you wonder why you bother. If anyone has any information or saw anything please get in touch.

"The container was an expansion for the foodbank based at the ground and for additional changing rooms to allow us to restart games at the ground.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.10am on Sunday, August 23, officers were called to assist following the report of a fire on Fairlie Drive, Falkirk. Enquiries into the circumstances and the cause of the fire are ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting incident 1087 of August 23."

A fundraising appeal has been set up, details here.
