Fined for possessing £1000 of drugs

A former soldier was caught with over £1000 worth of drugs.

Police found cocaine and cannabis in Gary Cassidy’s home at 203 Wallace Street, Falkirk, on October 16 last year.

At Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday the 26-year-old who had admitted drug possession at an earlier appearance and had sentence deferred for background reports, was fined £900.

Defence lawyer Murray Aitken said Cassidy, a self-employed joiner, was an “intelligent man who knows he has done wrong.”

Mr Aitken added: “He had struggled to come to terms with the loss of a younger sibling in 2015, but now no longer involved in the drug scene.”

Sheriff John Mundy had said sentencing options were a fine or unpaid work. Cassidy offered to pay the penalty at £200 a month.
