Filthy thieves break into Grangemouth sports pavilion and smear excrement over cheerleader uniforms

A local cheerleading club was devastated after it discovered its premises had been broken into and brand new uniforms were left covered in human faeces.

The incident happened after 9pm in Grangemouth’s Zetland Park sports pavilion – the former boxing gym.

Ashleigh Smith, who runs Sapphire Cheer and Dance with Samantha Faulkner, was up north on holiday when she was alerted.

She said: “It was on Saturday night at around 9pm and I got a message on our Facebook page from a person who lives across the street from Zetland Park saying they were a bit concerned about the youths hanging around the pavilion.

“The emergency door was open and there was a light on in the pavilion. We phoned the police right away, but the people who broke in were gone before they arrived.”

Ashleigh said it appeared a large PA speaker belonging to the club had been moved to another room.

“It must have been too heavy for them to take,” she said. “They were raking through everything – all our files – hoping to find cash, but we don’t keep anything like that in there.”

The culprits reportedly stole bottles of alcohol that were going to be used as raffle prizes in the club’s fundraising drive for a trip to Disneyland Paris.

Ashleigh said the most disgusting, and disturbing, part of the crime was the fact the offenders seem to have relieved themselves while at the premises and then used the cheerleader costumes to wipe themselves.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.50pm on Saturday, August 22, police were called to a report of a break-in to Zetland Park Pavilion, Bowhouse Road, Grangemouth.

“Enquiries are ongoing. Any witnesses or anyone with information should contact Grangemouth Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 4402 of August 22.”

Folk singer Dougie Smith, Ashleigh’s dad, has organised a fundraising page on the Go Fund Me website.

He has also committed to playing an online gig on his Facebook page on Thursday night to raise funds for the club.
