Falkirk's Callendar Estates boss brands bike track sabotage 'unacceptable'
The thoughtless behaviour of mindless vandals who deliberately left debris – including fence posts and barbed wire – on a popular cycle track was deemed unacceptable by those who manage the facility.
In the last week or so Callendar Estates’ Canada Trail cycle path, which is an easy route, suitable for most cyclists, has been blocked with a variety of materials ranging from fence posts to barbed wire.
The abuse of the cycle track is believed to be a recent development and one which Callendar Estate, which looks after the land and the tracks, is keen to call a halt to.
Guy Wedderburn, Callendar Estate manager, said: “It would appear it’s something that has been happening for the last week or so – a relatively new thing, it hasn’t been happening for months as far as we know.
"It’s pretty unacceptable, but hopefully this is will be the end of it. Until we know it’s over we’re asking cyclists to remain vigilant and take extra care. We’re also asking them to report any further incidents of this right away.”
There are fears cyclists could be badly injured if they fail to spot the debris.
One concerned walker, who stated he was going to report the matter to police, said: “I'm aware this has been happening frequently over the past few months with others posting photos in local biking groups.
"Clearly this was done with intent to cause injury – if the intent was to prevent access to the trail then the entrance would be blocked rather than the exit at the bottom of the small, steep section.”
