An appeal has gone out for witnesses to a suspicious fire at a chip shop in Falkirk’s Callendar Road

The blaze at the Golden Bird broke out at around 2.30 a.m. and was extinguished before it could spread to neighbouring shops.

However, it caused extensive smoke and fire damage to the property itself.

Police believe it was set deliberately and a joint investigation has been launched with the fire service.

Sergeant David Ferguson said: “The affected property sits in a row of shops so had emergency services not attended quickly this incident could have been much worse.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us immediately to help us further our enquiries.”

Police Scotland can be contacted on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
