Expectant Falkirk father goes on rampage when text suggests he is not the dad

Grant Young (33) saw red when he learned about the message which stated he was not the father of the baby his partner of two years was due to have in November.

Appearing from custody at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, Young admitted destroying property at his 7 River Street, Bainsford, home between July 27 and July 28 and assaulting his partner’s father by throwing a can at him and biting him to his injury there on July 28.

Graham McLachlan, procurator fiscal depute, said: “The accused and his partner were at the address and she left to go to work. They had an argument before she left and the accused had been drinking.

“He continued to drink after she left and caused some damage to items in the house, breaking a table and photo frames, throwing things at windows. He left the property at 4am and confronted the complainer’s father, pulling him from his car and biting him on the right thigh.

“It left a cut, but no medical treatment was required.”

The court heard Young, who has problems with alcohol, was made aware of a text message from a friend of his partner claiming he was not the father of the child his partner was expecting.

His defence solicitor said at times of stress Young turns to alcohol and that is what he did on this occasion as things spiralled out of control.

It was stated Young is in fact the father of the child and that his partner was “not blind to his faults”.

Sheriff John Mundy said: “My gut instinct tells me you don’t deserve another chance, but I’m going to give you one. However, one foot out of line and it will be custody for you.”

Sentence was deferred for six weeks for Young, who was released on bail, to be of good behaviour and to comply with his community payback order.
