Cookie the Yorkie, who would have been nine-years-old today, died after being struck by a car, which then sped off, in Portal Road in Grangemouth at around 7.35pm on Friday leaving the Pimm family shocked and angry.

Owner Amanda Pimm, who lives in nearby Mountbatten Street said her partner was walking Cookie when the tragedy happened.

She said: “My partner was walking Cookie on the normal route we always take and he was coming back to the house when the car came out of nowhere.

“She (the driver) tried to brake so was obviously speeding, but couldn’t stop in time and Cookie was killed instantly.

“She (the driver) nearly hit another two dogs before she struck and killed my wee Yorkie. She slowed down then sped off so she is well aware of what she has done. I think there will be some damage to the front of the vehicle.

“This isn’t a road you come down if you don’t mean to which means the driver might have been visiting someone near here, so we are pleading for anyone who might know who she is to please let police know. This could quite easily have been a child.

“My family is devastated, my two daughters are in pieces.”

The driver is described as being female and wearing glasses. The vehicle is believed to be a silver Nissan, possibly an old style Micra.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Forth Valley have been made aware a hit and run collision in Grangemouth.

“The incident happened around 7.35pm on Friday, June 23 in Portal Road. A dog was struck by a car, believed to be a Nissan Micra, which then failed to stop.

“As a result of injuries the animal sustained it died at the scene. Local officers will be liaising with the owners of the dog and would ask that anyone who can assist in tracing the driver to contact police immediately on 101 and quote incident number 3525 of June 25.”
