Denny man jailed over £11,500 production of cannabis

A Denny man has been imprisoned after he produced £11,500 of cannabis.

Scott McClung (50), of 33 Lithgow Place, grew the class B substance at Unit B, Newhouse Road, Grangemouth, between May 1, 2018 and July 4, 2018.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Thursday, McClung had also admitted preventing an electricity meter from working properly by inserting a screw.

The court heard his own business had collapsed and McClung had separated from his wife.

Defence solicitor Dick Sandeman told Sheriff Derek Hamilton: “He’s never been to jail before.

“It appears to be a one-off cultivation. He has a good income and can pay a fine.”

Sheriff Hamilton addressed McClung directly and said: “It appears to me to be a fairly sophisticated operation with equipment in industrial units and a container.

“This is in the top end of the cannabis production scale. There can only be one sentence and that’s custody.”

McClung was jailed for 11 months.
