Chucked his chip supper

Gordon Swift (49) had a drunken argument with the owner behind the counter of the Neptune Fish Bar and his routine of going to the pub for a few drinks, popping into the chip shop for his dinner and getting them to call a taxi to take him home suffered a major setback.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, Swift, 11 Dunkeld Place, Langlees, previously pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening manner at the premises in Grahams Road, Falkirk, on December 18 last year.

Procurator fiscal depute Mhairi Alexander said: “It was 6.50pm when he entered the shop and some form of argument took place as he was waiting for his food to be prepared.

“He swore at one of the staff and was asked to leave. He took his food which was handed to him and at that point he threw the food across the shop.”

Simon Hutchison, defence solicitor, told the court about Swift’s regular routine – pub, chippy, taxi, home.

He said: “He asked when his food would be ready and was told it would be an hour. He said his food was thrown at him so he threw it back. This used to be his regular chip shop.

“He would go for a few pints, go in and order his food and they would phone his taxi. It was a stupid argument between him and the owner.”

Sheriff John Mundy fined Swift £225 and gave him one month to pay it.
