CAMELON UPDATE: Operation winds down after robot bomb probe

Emergency services and bomb disposal personnel are now standing down after investigating a suspicious device in Camelon.

The village’s Main Street was closed off throughout the afternoon as officers from Police Scotland and the Royal Logistics Corps carried out checks within the Microtech 2000 store using a bomb detection and disposal robot.

Fire and ambulance crews were also in attendance, standing by with members of the public and workers and residents evacuated from nearby premises at a safe distance from the shop.

Police were executing a search warrant in connection with a fraud investigation when the discovery was made at Microtech.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The appropriate partners were called to assist and there was found to be no threat to the public. A man is currently detained in connection with the fraud investigation, and enquiries are continuing.

“The local community are thanked for their patience while this was ongoing.”

Buses had to be diverted via Glenfuir Road and Union Road as the area was closed to traffic.
