Camelon man who allegedly damaged own gas pipe appears in court

A man who allegedly caused deliberate damage to a gas pipe in his own home was found alone and “inebriated” by an engineer, it is claimed.

Scott Laidlaw (32) appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court yesterday charged with culpable and reckless conduct.

Laidlaw, 29 Burnside Court, Camelon, was remanded in custody for further examination after he made no plea to the charge.

It is alleged he damaged the pipe on purpose and gas escaped as a result.

An SGN employee alerted police at around 9.30pm on Sunday after being called out to deal with a smell of gas coming from the property.

The company was of the opinion further damage could’ve been caused to nearby flats had the pipe been left unattended.

Laidlaw’s next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, August 24.
