Callous '˜workers' rob pensioners in their home twice

Police are hunting for two callous crooks who cleaned a pensioner couple's gutters then broke into their home twice afterwards to rob them.

The pair did the gutter clearing work at the house in Souter Way, Larbert last Saturday (July 23) with permission from the couple, who are in their nineties, and were paid £40 for the work.

However, at around 5pm the same night the couple found the men in their kitchen stealing money from her handbag before fleeing after they were caught. Around £40 was taken from the woman’s purse.

The men then got into a navy blue car and drove off.

On Wednesday this week, the elderly lady disturbed the same men in her kitchen for the second time looking for her purse and bravely challenged them before they ran off on foot in the direction of Bellsdyke Road.

One of the men is described as a white male with a dirty appearance, around 5ft 8in, medium to stalky build, fair/red short hair, wearing workmen’s clothes, a blue jumper and blue trousers with several visible pockets.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses.

Sergeant Sean Goldie said: “If anyone was in the area of Souter Way, Larbert or Bellsdyke Road around the above times who may have observed these males or the above mentioned car please contact us on 101, quoting crime reference CF0124140716.

“We will be offering additional security advice to the victim of this crime to prevent further incidents.

“We would also like to remind the public to ensure your house is always protected against intrusion, use a chain on your door, keep it locked and only allow workmen to carry out work on your property whom you trust or have been vetted through sites such as ‘check a trade’.
